I am on the road back to New Orleans for a very brief stay with an obscenely aggressive dining schedule! I am absolutely fired up!! First on my list is Cochon Butcher, then Mandina’s, Parasol’s, Cassamento’s (my third attempt, always closed for one reason or another when I get there), and even if I have to use the Vomatorium, I will make sure that I get an order of Drago’s Charbroiled Oysters before I go. I also have a few other culinary attractions that I aim to make it to on my short trip, more to come. I’m arriving on March 08, with an empty stomach as well as an emtpy digital camera card, and I’m leaving March 10 in the evening with both full to the gills. I really can’t wait. Here are some of my favorite pics from my last two trips, culinary and non.

Slave Quarters Evergreen Plantation. An eye opening and haunting experience, not in the “this place is haunted” sense, but the “this is how our country was built, and it should be haunted” sense. Pictures do not do this place justice.
The battered Dixie Brewery. I never posted on this, it was too damned depressing. I will post a few now.

Oh wow! I was there in December (we had a rare Ray Nagin sighting). Be sure to pick up some Cat Daddy at Cochon. They were working on the new butcher shop when we were there. Have a fantastic time!
Oh, you lucky duck! What I wouldn’t give for a gigantic bowl of turtle soup at Mandina’s right now. Or a Dixie. Or even a Barq’s in a glass bottle. Ooooh, or a Pimm’s cup.
It’s been almost twenty years, but I remember the Napoleon House like it was yesterday. We sat in the garden, and each time I ordered another Dixie the server would say “A very nice choice, young man.”

I just love your site, lots of good work here! Your pictorial brought back a great memory of NO that I’ll always treasure. It needs no further description than that of emerging into the early summer heat from the cool calm, dark environs of the Napoleon House after about 16 Pimm’s cups, and almost being knocked down by the light!

Just (reluctantly) left NOLA about 47 hours ago…but she has stayed with me, thankfully, and ’tis a good feeling. This is the 2nd time in those hours that your website has come up in my post NOLA dreaming and meandering. My compliments to you on photos and recipes! Today, I will be re-creating fond memories with beignets, as well as muffuletta bread and olive salad from your recipes. Also going to throw in some home-churned lemon gelato (I know, but it goes well after anything)which we had at a rather new-ish establishment across from the Gumbo Shop on Ursuline. Je reviens tout de suite…

Your website is about to make me pass out! I visited NO for the first time, for one day, during a road trip headed back home to Detroit from San Antone. We drove around and around and decided to stop at Deanie’s Seafood in the French Quarter. We had Barbeque Shrimp and the fried seafood platters. They served an amazing crab soup. What is the name of the place with the nice shrimp in the D? We cannot wait to return to NO to visit more restaurants and your suggestions will be my resource for where to go and what to eat! I’m gonna try your recipes, too!
